Mahoujo Titles

It's important for a husband and wife to not be thought of a single-thoughted, two headed single entity. There's been a deliberate attempt to make sure that it's clear that the thoughts on this site are my own. I would hate for Bruce to put words in my mouth and put them out in public. So I'm careful to return the favor.

Though Bruce does seem to like some action adventure type shows, like the Fairy Princess Ren and the Fam and Iri that he did long prior to their commercial purchases, his real forte and love is the charming shows he did - like the purchase of Whisper Of The Heart (before the purchase by Disney) and mahoujo shows, Nurse Angel Ririka SOS and Hime-chan no Ribon.

He has always said he has a fair understanding of women, and he thinks little girls are adorable. What daddy wouldn't? Daughters Tabitha and Colleen, both adults, just hang on to waiting for their dad to finish the next Hime-chan episode. Colleen likes mahoujo and shoujo titles equally but Tabitha is the REALLY big Hime-chan fan.

Sons Bree and Jeremy are anime fans too and I don't want to leave them out while on the subject. Bree likes shows like Sailor Moon, Saber Marionette J, Ah! My Goddess. Jeremy likes Marmalade Boy, Fushigi Yuugi, El Hazard and so on.

"Well, just as the fine print said, I had tears in my eyes as I watched the last of Nurse Angel Ririka. I enjoyed the series and am a little sad that it is over."

"I...recently saw the first four episode of Nurse Angel and greatly enjoyed them At first I thought they were designed strictly for a younger audience but there are definitely undertones that appeal to an older audience."

" Ike, ike, go, go, Jummmmpppp! (Is it too obvious that I love this show? ^_^;;;)

"You know, one of the things watching "Hime-chan! has done is reinforce my belief that Japanese seiyuu are, acting-wise, in a class by themselves"

"All you have to do is watch the performance of each seiyuu whose character is mimicked by Hime-chan - and seeing each of them convincingly portray her - to see that they know how to act. I tend to forget that it's an entirely different actor portraying Himeko, which really shows how well they do their job. The work that Mizuhara Rin (Hikaru's seiyuu) did in episode 17 and 18 was especially amazing."

Brian

"My wife Elizabeth and I just finished Nurse Angel Rirka volume 9. It arrived today so we cleared our evening and sat down to watch the final episodes. We had a strong sense of foreboding after your comments about the high drama in the final episode. So we were, at least, somewhat prepared. But it still managed to surprise, sadden, and then ultimately delight us."

"I commented very early in the series on how much I enjoyed the way the struggle Ririka had in meeting the obligations of Nurse Angel was presented. I remember those comments as the final episode arrived and Ririka struggled with the final obligations of the Nurse Angel. What a brave young woman! And what a courageous choice! She gathers her friends and family together for one final time and as her friends praise her, the candles are one by one blown out until she stand in the dark with her memories. And Seiya's ironic choice to surround her in flowers..."

"Tears, and more tears...Marmalade Boy didn't really affect us so; it seemed less real. But Ririka's decision and her friends sadness seemed much more honest and therefore much more real."

"A wonderful series. A tremendous job done by you in bringing it to English-speaking fans. A true legacy of which you should be very proud."

Wade

"I started the series (Ririka),s o I might as well finished it. What can I say, it grows on you. (Of course, I'd hate to explain to anyone why I'm ordering tapes for a series that stars people who are ten, but no one really needs to know that.) There are moments when I doubt my sanity. Then I remember that there are people like the two of you who spend hours subbing these shows, and I smile. I am not alone. Thanks again for everything.

"When I got Hime-chan's Ribbon V.1 and 2 as alternate titles, I wasn't sure if I would like it. But I did like it, in fact, I love it! I hold it second to none!"

"Hi! I'm tickled pink that you are going to be doing Him-chan no Ribon. It's one of my all-time favorites, and the very fact that you will be doing it will mean a LOT of people will want to watch it."

"When I saw on one of the pages that Bruce had started working on Hime-chan no Ribbon I literally jumped out of my chair and screamed! I've been wanting to see that series for quite some time now and that he's doing it makes me very happy *^^* "

Nurse Angel Ririka SOS fan labels by Marcelino of Brazil

************

This following letter shows an interesting set of observations.

Thanks so much for the second three installments of Hime-chan's Ribbon. Here are some of my comments and observations:

1) The episode where Himeko "dies" was so sad, but fortunately ends happily.

2) I'm seeing some similarities between the cast of Hime-chan no Ribon and Nurse Angel Ririka SOS. Maybe my imagination.

 Hime-chan

My Observations

Main character, both around the same age, both have 2 girl friends.

Protector/best friends/"soul mate?"

Magical world counterpart, royalty.

Magical world "advisor" (Sei being A LOT more comical), love interest in Erika-Helena (though Sei broke off his engagement with Erika)

Arch rival, self appointed president of a fan club complete with her own followers, father owns a hospital, Hibino is Miyuki with the forehead!

Friend of Himeko/Ririka, secret crush on a boy (Tachibana-senpai, can't remember the other anime), Manami thinks everything is "sugoi" whereas Karin tries to act "cool"

The other friend of Himeko-Ririka

Best animal friend

Cute, Mischievous little sibling

Funny magical "loyal subject" which always talks to the "princess" (Erika/Mimina) in an excited manner

Brat who means well

There can only be ONE Dewey!

"I'm probably grasping at air on some of the observations! It think both Nurse Angel Ririka SOS and Hime-chan no Ribon are both produced by the same company. Are these similarities deliberate or coincidence? Two Shows. Similar casts. Yet stories so different!"

"The quality of your fansubs is soo good! I love the notes and comments at the beginning of the tapes. Those video effect/wipes must be hard to do. Thanks!"

From Canada but the name of the person isn't on this portion of the letter.

Fan unknown on this label since the letter is not in the same place as the design.

"I must admit to being a little skeptical at first about Nurse Angel Rirka. Despite the fact that I got introduced to anime through Sailor Moon I have since gotten bored with the somewhat formulaic Magical Girl Genre. Also the fact the the main characters were younger compared to the other anime I've seen made me wonder if I could sympathize with them. But I was willing to give it a try after seeing your comments on your web site."

"What can I say? I love it! The music was perfect, the characters acted properly mature and immature at just the right times to provoke drama and comedy, and the unveiling of the storyline is done gradually enough to keep you guessing, but quickly enough to avoid frustration. The fact that these are just 10 year-old kids rapidly becomes forgotten, along with other irrelevant issues like Why Do Japanese Girls Have Blonde Hair? I can't wait to show it to some of the people at work!"
