Kei and Suzu Have Something In Common

I'm not fond of Kei or Suzu, ... , but it seems to me that they have
something in common which helps account for their unlikable traits: they
were both, in different ways, forced to take on adult responsibilities, and
denied some normal relationships with a peer group.

This means they have less social experience with normal teens, though they
have a different kind of experience and sophistication from dealing with
adults in "professional" contexts.

Suzu's superficial persona is "kawaii" and childlike (but she's expected to
be adult about "professional" matters.)

Kei's superficial persona is more cool and "mature" (though he shows bursts
of emotion).

But it seems like the combination of having less experience with peers
their own age in normal situations, and having to deal with adults who may
not be looking out for their best interests, could leave them lacking in
empathy/understanding, and prone to be suspicious or manipulative.

A Personal Opinion About Characters and Couples.

Hello!
In defense of Kei, I think that he deserves the best, because he's
played the piano with all his heart, even for Miki.
About Na'chan, I think that he should have been fired long before and
that Miwa and Mieko look like a better pair.
Yuu and Miki seem fine together, but how about poor Anju???
And Ginta????
They all have no love, except that Arimi is greedy for wanting Yuu
for herself. She had her chance. =)

About The Couples

Ginta and Arimi, though I do dearly love the couple (and particularly Arimi-chan :D
) was a rebound thing to begin with, though it stuck together through
tougher things. Namura and Meiko...blech. She should have chosen Miwa over
the pedo. x.x Koishikawas and Matsuuras...no comment, and I don't think
they need one. o.o Miki and Yuu? Good grief, they broke up and got
together like mad. They deserve each other. And...well, watch the MB
movie. Heh. :D
Again, don't get me wrong--I like the show, and I like some of the
couples (Ginta and Arimi forever!), but...I have grave doubts to how well
they would have worked out if it happened in RL, and not in shoujo
anime/manga.

I Think Kei and Miki Would Be Cute Together

Me too, Im a little confused as to how so many people hate Kei. I think he
matured through the end of the series. I mean, Jinny is MUCH more despicable!
But anyway, Im pretty sure lots of people have given their views about this
already. Anyway, I love Kei cause he's pretty cute ^_^, he was pretty
considerate. He even told Yuu/asked his permission regarding Miki. Plus he's
so talented! His music soothed Miki's troubles and he didnt get all mad and
immature when Miki began thinking of Yuu during their date! I thought it was
SOOO sweet when they held hands ^_^ Errr.. I hope no on's saying EWWW over
there! ^_^ But I truly think it was soo sweet and romantic when Kei and Miki
held hands! I wish they could at least have shared one kiss ^_^ But of
course, Yuu is still No. 1 for Miki. Im just saying that Kei is the Number 2
and then Ginta. Actually it was only Kei who didnt get a kiss. Michael did
and so did Ginta.

Anyway, I truly think that Kei and Miki would be happy together, just like
what Meiko said in regards to her relationship with Miwa. ***If*** it was the
original ending that the author decided to do, Id be happy if Kei ended up
with Miki and Yuu went of somewhere to concentrate/thinking and sort of
leaveit to the air as to who he ends up with. (I STILL dont want him to end
up with Meiko or anybody else!)

To this comment by someone.....

I actually think that Bill and Jinny were just a result of last minute coupling. This may sound strange, but I think that the producers of the show only wanted Americans with Americans and Japanese with Japanese, and that's why Anju and Bill were not put together... And that's really strange. Did anyone feel this way besides me?

Some of the Answers

Wow I'm soooooo far behind on these, I would tend to disagree with
you on that one...I mean the whole "Bill is gay" thing wasn't added
at the last minute so I'm not sure if I agree with you...and I know
you'll all get sick of me saying this but I think Jinny and Bill are
meant to be together! I mean their whole history from prolly grade
school they were always togther (or at least that's how I saw it).
Of course I think anyone who thinks Anju should be with Bill is also
intitiled to their opinion also...I just like mine better.

Pizzaz Misfit

I never really thought about that before.... but now that you mention it,
there *might* be a grain of truth in that... That is a possibility. But I
really thought Bill and Anju would be together. They sort of had this certain
chemistry and now way would one cheat on the other! I have this strange
feeling that Jinny **might** cheat on Bill! Cause Jinny seems so childish so
she might cheat on Bill, in case she wants to make Bill jealous or something
(If Jinny feels insecure on her relationship with Bill). But anyway, I was
REALLY surprised about the Bill and Jinny pairing. I **kinda** believe the
idea about Bill liking Jinny, but NO WAY can I believe that right away, Jinny
liked Bill! I mean come on now, that was a pretty fast decision of her to
make right after Bill's confession! I mean one minute she was so into Yuu,
and now it's Bill... I dont see how Jinny could suddenly have all these
feelings of "love" for Bill, I mean how she suddenly liked Bill as a
boyfriend!

Well, anyway, those are my thoughts ^_^

I don't think so. The "is Bill gay?" plot device was set up well in
advance of the end of the series. I rather think that the producers
had the Bill/Jinny couple in mind from the beginning, but just didn't
have enough time to devote to it to fully develop the relationship.
(As with most of the Americans, sadly...)

In this case, I don't think it's an anti-American sentiment, for two
reasons. One, some of the US characters (Bill, Doris, and to a
certain extent Michael) don't fit any of the usual stereotypical
roles Americans tend to be cast in in anime. Two, in the Japan
segments, there are hints that a Michael/Suzu or, later, Michael/Anju
couple might develop. (And I wish they'd paired Michael and Anju...
would have made for a terrific story arc.)

An Opinion On Why Jinny Fell For Bill

Jinny loves Bill? Yes, but it is kinda subtle though. First Jinny
acts different around Bill more mature...when Bill slapped Jinny she
was very *altert* (stung I guess) If anyone else were to do that to
Jinny I think she would have slapped them back. Jinny let's Bill take
care of her and doesn't put a barrier between them.

Jinny fell hard for Yuu because let's face it he's new, exciting,
different...Yuu is the talk of the town being an exchange student and
Jinny likes the attention he get's...same with Brian, did Jinny
really like Brian for Brian or because Brian was popular. I think
Jinny did not "love" Yuu like she claimed (maybe not in those exact
words) but loved the attention he got, an infatuation...I'm sure that
everyone here can agree that Jinny has some problems that make her
need attention even if it is negative.

I think all along Jinny liked Bill and knew that he liked her, I
think she also knew that he wasn't really gay because she teased him
so much about it. She wanted to be close to Bill but didn't know how
to communicate it to him so she let him be near her...I see them as
childhood friends and that Jinny cared deeply for Bill and love was a
logical step (for all of this I have no "proof" it's just the way I
see things to be) But anyway that's the way I see it ^_^

I SHOULD WRITE A FANFIC ABOUT MICHAEL AND ANJU?

Ya know, if I wasn't so busy, I'd write a fanfic.

Plot: Michael and Anju meet, and Michael falls madly in love with her.
He's matured a bit now, and while still the happy fellow that makes him
Mikey, he actually thinks about his relationship. The feeling reminds him
of what he felt towards Miki, and he actually wonders whether or not he
really loves Anju, or just likes her because she's sweet, like Miki.
Michael, having matured quite a bit, considers breaking up with Anju
because he knows she deserves a boy who loves her because she's Anju, and
he's not certain he could ever be that boy.

So, after finals and everything, should I try writing it?

Marie

Marie, who agrees that there should have been more episodes so that the
>>nicest boy (Michael) could have gotten together with the nicest girl
>>(Anju).

Marie

I couldn't agree with you more ^_^ I think they DID in fact get together
after the show ended. Michael seemed to take every chance he could to talk
to Anju. And Anju said things like, "Michael's so silly." and "He's gentle
and honest like Brian." Michael seemed very interested when he first met
Anju, and he was even telling her a joke in the last episode. I think that
would be the best couple in the whole show! But that's just me ^_^

Cooler with Miki and Yuu As Siblings?

Does anyone else think it would've been much cooler if Miki and Yuu *had*
been siblings, the way Wataru originally intended. Not that I think they
should've stayed together if they were... but it wouldv'e been an
interesting twist.

The only thing I didn't like about the original ending was the hints at
Miki getting with Ginta and Yuu aith Meiko. Thats just plain weird ^_^;;
I would've liked Miki to get with Kei ^_^ As for Yuu... I'd say Anju, but
since we're talking about the manga (and Anju belongs with Bill anyway..)
hmm.. Miwa??

Danielle

Some of the Answers

Yes, I do think that such an ending would have been VASTLY superior to
the silly "oh it was all a mistake" ending. This last minute twist of
the plot was hardly last minute. The fact that Yuu doesn't know who his
father is, and that this bothers him immensely, shows up very early in
the series. It is clear that Wataru had this in mind from the
beginning. It is a beautiful but of plot/story development on his
part. In my opinion the "it was all a mistake" ending cheapened the
entire series.

Derik

If this was the TRUE ending, and it was made this way, i would........ DIE!!!
I would be SOOOO depressed, as in REALLY! When I first started watching
Marmalad Boy I was oooo into the story, and into Miki's life, and then to
find out that all their trials were all for nothing?! Nooo way, I am SOO
happy that they were not ^_^

Although, Im probably a little weired.. ok, I am weird, but let's say that
the author made Miki and Yuu true brothers and sisters, AND Miki and Yuu
decide to stay together DESPITE this fact, i think ummm.. that would be
sweet... I know I know, it's sick, but they did promise never to have
children, right? I dont know, I think it would be sweet/romantic for them to
promise this and stay together despite this sad truth... But of course, the
ending of Marmalade Boy now, is DA best! ^_^

Anyway, I had a question for all that will respond. One of my friends

> Am I the only one that thinks this? Please send your replies! Thanks!

Honestly? Bah...they're all flaky in one way or another. Ginta and
Arimi, though I do dearly love the couple (and particularly Arimi-chan :D
) was a rebound thing to begin with, though it stuck together through
tougher things. Namura and Meiko...blech. She should have chosen Miwa over
the pedo. x.x Koishikawas and Matsuuras...no comment, and I don't think

No no no!!!!! Mii and Yuu are TOTALLY cool and they got a GREAT relationship!
Ginta and Arimi?? Like no way! I know, I know Im extremely biased against
them, but what kind or relationship did they have wherein each of them were
Miki and Yuu's "ex" and they settled on each other??? It's like: "oh well I
couldn't have this person, so I'll settle for your previous partner" Ok, ok,
so I know that isnt the case, but I just HATE Arimi and Ginta together! I
just WISH Ginta got someone else and not Arimi who is rather close to home,
after all Arimi was Yuu's ex! Ok, Id better stop cause I know Im gonna get
lots of flames =( I still cant recover on the fact that Ginta was like so
"over" Miki right away and switched to Arimi.....

Ok, gomen gomen to all Arimi and Ginta fans! (Dont hurt me please....)
